How to make tilapia fish fry

Fish fry is a simple dish that takes only 12-15 minutes depending on the fish type, for shallow frying. I had already shared the recipe of grilled salmon fish, which takes more time to cook as compared to Tilapia.


200 gms of tilapia fillet
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tbsp tamarind paste
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves/parsley
4 to 5 tbsp oil for shallow fry


1. Clean the tilapia fillets with cold running water. Cut into medium sized pieces.

2. In a bowl, mix together salt, turmeric powder, garam masala, ginger garlic paste and tamarind paste.

3. Add fish pieces to the masala mixture. Coat each of the pieces with the masala. Fish marination is done.

4. Let the marinated fish be kept aside for 20 minutes.

5. Take a pan, spread it with oil. Keep the stove on a medium flame.

6. Place the fish pieces with space between each of the pieces.

7.  Top it with chopped coriander leaves/parsley leaves. Let it cook for 5-6 minutes on low to medium flame.

8. Flip over the fish pieces. Smear some oil on the top and sides of the pieces.  Let it cook for 5-6 minutes or until they are done.

Tip: Usually fish gets cooked faster as compared to any meat.

9. Once both sides of the fish are cooked, keep the sides of the bigger fish pieces to be fried - as shown below. This will ensure, thicker and bigger pieces get cooked on all sides.

10. Voila! the fish fry is ready.
