Raw Mango Sweet Pachidi

In most of the villages, during summer days where you have plenty of mangoes all over the surroundings, raw mango pachidi for white rice and a simple vathakuzhambu is so very common. It is a sweet and sour delicacy which most of the crowd in the city might not know.

The ingredients as well as the steps to prepare the recipe is quite few. You can taste this pachidi anytime during your day. Pregant women would definitely love this recipe as it gives that tangy touch to the dish as well as spicy. Let's see how to make raw mango pachidi.



Ingredients:

1 raw mango
1/2 tsp red chilli powder/paprika
a pinch of turmeric powder
1/4 tsp salt
1.5 cups of water
2 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard and split black gram
1/2 cup jaggery powder or 50 gms of palm jaggery cubes

How to make raw mango pachidi:

1. Wash and cut the raw mango into 2 inch pieces.



2. Heat a pan or kadai with 2 tsp oil. Add mustard seeds and let it sputter.



3. Add chopped mango pieces and saute for a minute.



Tip: Usually this dish is made using raw mangoes, but i'm using a slightly ripe mango to have extra sweetness to the dish.





4. Then add salt and cook for 2 minutes on medium flame.



5. Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder.



6. Mix the ingredients in the pan thoroughly.



7. Add 1.5 cups of water and cook it for 6-7 minutes, covering with a lid.



8. By now, the mango pieces would have become tender and softened.



9. Add powdered jaggery or raw jaggery cubes to the pan.







10. Stir it once and let it cook on medium flame for another 7 minutes or until the jaggery syrup forms a thick consistency.



11. You can check the syrup consistency, by allowing it to drip from the spatula and it is kind of thick and does not flow down quickly.



 At this point, you can switch off the flame. Look at the pic below, the mango is thoroughly cooked and is kind of transparent. It is very aromatic too!



12. Serve the raw mango sweet pachidi with curd rice, sambar rice or vathakuzhambu. A closer look at how the pachidi looks - isn't yum ?!?!!



13. You can just have it as a evening snack too.
