Pepper Chicken Gravy

Pepper chicken gravy is a delicious recipe that calls for simple ingredients from our kitchen and could be made easily by anyone following the steps. It's quite tasty and goes well with rice, roti and dosa. You need not marinate the chicken before cooking hence the cooking process takes about 25 minutes. Lets take a look at the steps to prepare this gravy. I have already shared the recipe for pepper chicken, however it is a dry one.


2 medium sized onions
2 medium sized tomatoes
1 tsp snauff
1 green chilli, slit vertically
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 tbsp cooking oil
350 gms of chicken
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
3 tsp pepper corns
2 tsp cumin seeds
1 sprig curry leaves
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
salt to taste
3/4 cup water

1. To the chicken pieces add half a tsp turmeric powder, mix it well. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Then clean the chicken well with running water atleast 5-6 times.

2. Take a heavy bottomed kadai or wok. Add cooking oil, snauff and curry leaves.

3. Then add onions and green chillies. Cook for 2-3 minutes on medium flame.

4. Add ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes away.

5. Add tomatoes and cook for about 3 minutes. You can a 1/4 tsp of salt to quicken up the process.

6. Add garam masala, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and chilli powder. Stir until the masala coats the chicken well.

7.  Now add water and cook it covered for about 20 minutes or until chicken becomes tender.

9. meanwhile, take pepper corns and cumin seeds in a mixer and make a coarse powder.

10. Once the chicken gets cooked well, add salt, pepper-cumin powder. Mix it thoroughly.

 11. Cook the gravy for another 5-6 minutes on low flame and keep stirring. 

12. Finally add chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

13. Voila! lip smacking pepper chicken gravy is ready.

14. Enjoy pepper chicken gravy with rice, dosa, naan or chapati.
