Moong dhal dumplings

Green moong dhal is the whole green gram and is packed with proteins as with any other pulses.
today's recipe is all about a sweet snack made using green gram steamed in banana leaf.

100 gms moong dhal/green gram
75 gms of jaggery
1 pinch of cardamom powder
250 ml water
1/2 cup cooking oil
salt to taste
1 cup of rice flour

 Soak green gram in enough water for about 8 hrs.

Then add soaked green gram to pressure cooker. add water.

Cook it for 6-7 whistles until green gram mashes well.

Remove excess water from the cooked moong dhal using a colander.

After complete draining of water, add powdered jaggery, a pinch of cardamom powder.

mix it thoroughly and keep it aside.

Boil 1/2 cup of water with a tsp of cooking oil and salt.

take rice flour in a mixing bowl.

Switch off the flame and add boiling water little by little to the rice flour.

Using a spoon to mix flour and water,

Knead well while it is warm enough to touch with hands and then form a dough.

the important ingredient in this recipe is banan leaf, i plucked banana leaf from my home garden.

wash the banana leaves thoroughly and cut into small squares or rectangle shapes.

 add a tsp of cooking oil.

Then take small round shapes.

Place it on the leaf and gentle press using your palm or fingers.

Flatten the dough to a thin disc.

Place a spoon full of green gram and jaggery mixture.

Bring the other side of the leaf and close it by pressing gently with your palm.

Place the stuffed leaf onto a pre-heated steamer and cook for 17-20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, the dumplings are ready to be served. The leaves are cooked and the essence of banana leaf steeps through the dumplings adding the nutrient benefits of the leaves to the dish.

 Serve the dumplings warm and enjoy as an evening snack or dinner.
