Seafood recipes are my personal favorite. Not because they are tasty but because they can be cooked with ease and the cooking time is even less compared to red meat recipes.
Today's recipe is all about making a puttu using shark fish. Sura means shark in Tamil this recipe is made by making tiny bits of shark fish, hence the name.
Ingredients:
500 gms shark fish
3 green chillies
2 medium sized onions
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
2 sprig of curry leaves
2 medium sized onions
1 tsp fennel seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
salt to taste
1 tbsp oil
2 sprig of curry leaves
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chopped garlic
1 tsp finely chopped ginger
500 ml water
How to make sura puttu:
Clean and wash the fish thoroughly for about 8-9 times.
Add water to a pan and bring it to boil. Switch off the flame. Add cleaned fish to the boiled water.
Let it stand for about 15 minutes.
The fish will get cooked completely as you can see the bulged sides of the fish pieces.
Heat a wok. Add oil. Once oil is hot, add cumin and fennel. Sautee for few seconds.
Add chopped curry leaves.
Then add finely chopped onions, ginger, garlic and green chilies all at once.
Sautee for about 3-4 minutes on medium flame until the raw smell of ginger garlic goes away.
Meanwhile, remove the fish pieces from hot water. Gently rub sthe skin and removethe outer part.
Repeat it for other pieces.
Mash the cleaned ones using hands. Keep it ready.
You can very well use the vertebra, by breaking into two or three pieces and the head part too.
Add mashed fish pieces to the pan.
Add turmeric and salt.
Mix well. Add some more oil if needed. Cook on medium flame for about 12 minutes.
By now, the raw smell of the fish goes away. Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
Voila! Yummy sura puttu is ready to serve.
